About the Algarve

General:

Situated at the extreme south western corner of the Iberian Peninsula, in the South of Portugal, the Algarve destinguishes itself from the rest of the country not only for its peripheral location, but also for its morphologic and geological characteristics.

The Algarve region covers about 6% of the counrty´s total surface area and is bordered to the north by the Alentejo and to the east it is separated from the Spanish region of Andalusia by the River Guadiana and to the west and south is bathed in the Atlantic Ocean, making up a total area of about 5.000 km2.
